Bosma contributes to the continuing professional development of its clients, volunteers, and employees by hosting a Toastmasters club. Toastmasters International is an organization dedicated to improving the oral communication and presentation skills of people throughout the world and our club presents a unique opportunity to get involved. Some of our members have their sight while others may be blind or visually impaired. But Toastmasters brings people together from every area of the Bosma community - from production, management, marketing, and even volunteers - to develop their personal and professional skills. But most of all, Toastmasters is one of the ways Bosma employees and volunteers get together to have fun!
What Can Toastmasters Do For You?
Toastmasters can help you to find new friends, develop your professional skills, and strengthen your confidence. A typical meeting lasts about an hour and engages participants in a variety of different situations. You might learn to give a prepared speech, you might learn to speak off the cuff, you might even learn how to run a productive and effective meeting. There is no harsh criticism or impossible expectations. Everyone works with whatever skills they have to become whatever they want. Toastmasters will help you to become the best you can be by placing you into a supportive community which will nurture positive relationships, personal development, and longterm confidence.
How Can I Get Involved?
Come to a meeting! We meet every Thursday in the Training Room at Bosma 1 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Once you're there, you'll meet our members, participate in the meeting, and you'll be even asked to give your comments as a guest. You can participate as much or as little as you like. If you decide to join, you will need to fill out an application and pay $27 for your first six months of dues. There is also a new member fee, but Bosma pays that fee to encourage participation. These fees will cover your participation in state and regional speech competitions (should you choose to participate), your new member kit, and the workbooks you will use to develop your speeches. And you help others, too. Your participation enables other Toastmasters to keep pursuing their dreams and their goals. It's a win-win for everyone.
