Un Nuevo Comienzo (A New Start)

Randall Castro and his family immigrated to the United States from Costa Rica when he was 36 years old and totally blind. Born with retinitis pigmentosa, Randall didn’t experience any debilitating vision issues until his early 20’s. He owned a transportation business, was married, and had two children. But by age 28, he had lost his vision, his company, and his self-esteem.

“I didn’t know what I needed.”

Why me? Anyone who has lost their vision asks the same question. For Richard, who had lived a life of service to others, it was particularly poignant. He had counseled, cried, and argued with thousands of lost souls who were struggling with addiction and its fallout, only to find himself wondering why God dealt him this hand.

When Shonika Bolden came to Bosma last year, she was scared to death. Since becoming blind, she hadn’t gone anywhere by herself. This spring, Shonika and her son, will move into their new apartment close to Bosma, and she’s looking forward to beginning her new life.

Our Results

Over 50% of our own workforce is blind or visually impaired.

Last year, we served over 1,000 Hoosiers through our employment and rehabilitation programs.

Over 70% of our clients entered higher education or competitive employment after completing our programs.

Annually, we place employees who are blind or visually impaired with nearly 30 companies in the community, diversifying their workforces and disproving stereotypes about the abilities of people who are blind or visually impaired.

Over 500 seniors with vision loss have benefited from in-home training, enabling them to remain independent.
